Modeling and Optimization of Biomedical Devices: a) design and analysis of innovative microfluidic impedance cytometers for single-cell characterization; b) reconstruction of shape and dielectric properties of single cells from impedance data; c) development and implementation of numerical models of drug release from polymeric substrates.
Computational Mechanics, Biomechanics and Nonsmooth Mechanics: a) polar decomposition based corotational formulation for nonlinear structural analysis; b) development and implementation of effective corotational shell elements for large strain analysis, with application to biological tissues; c) development and implementation of effective corotational solid and shell elements for SMA structures, with applications to biomedical devices; d) determination of the effective complex conductivity of periodic fibrous composites with interfacial impedance and applications to biological tissues; e) determination of the effective longitudinal shear moduli of random composites comprising functionally-graded fibres; f) development of predictive theories for the multiple collisions of rigid bodies.
Image and Signal Processing: a) development and implementation of digital signal processing algorithms for feature extraction in microflow cytometry data; b) SPECT-PET image segmentation for delineation of target volume in radiotherapy; c) mammographic image processing for computer assisted diagnosis d) development and implementation of interference rejection systems in broadband satellite communications.
